Do it yourself laser hair removal at home is very popular but does it really work or are you just wasting your money and time?
There are many handheld devices on the market to remove unwanted hair at home. Many of them are described as lasers when in fact they are small Intense Pulse Lights (IPLs).
The information below will help you to make an informed decision about purchasing a handheld device or instead of visiting a professional laser hair removal clinic.
What’s the difference between a laser and an IPL hair removal?
A laser uses a direct beam of light energy that is attracted to the hair follicle and penetrates to the bulb of the hair killing the root permanently. Whereas IPL uses a wider spectrum of light energy similar to that of a light bulb. The IPL is unable to penetrate as deep as the laser and is therefore unlikely to kill the hairs root.
Lasers are very expensive machines costing many tens of thousands of pounds. IPL machines are priced at less than half the cost of a laser.
Home devices cost hundreds of pounds, they’re like toys when compared to professional laser hair removal clinic machines.
In our laser hair removal clinic, we use the Soprano Ice Platinum Laser hair removal system. This laser is recognised as the best laser hair removal system in the world. We use IPL systems for skin rejuvenation, not hair removal.
Is a handheld home system better than a laser in a clinic?
A laser hair removal clinic will permanently remove your unwanted hair, whereas a handheld home device will temporarily remove your unwanted hair.
The reason for this is that the clinic’s laser will be very powerful as described above and the handheld device is a low power IPL.
How much does laser hair removal cost?
In our clinic full body, permanent laser hair removal would cost in the region of £1374 based on six sessions.
Some skin types may require more sessions, the laser technician will advise you during your free consultation and patch test.
