A verruca is a skin growth with an uneven texture. Usually with little black dots as shown in the photo. As you can see they tend to grow on the soles of the feet. People often describe verrucas as upside down warts. As the wart is forced to grow inside the skin due to the downward pressure of the foot.
Verrucas if left untreated can spread. And may become uncomfortable especially when weight bearing.

What causes Verrucas?
Verrucas are caused by an infection under the top layer of the skin. These viruses most commonly HPV (human papillomavirus). And usually enter the skin via a scratch or wound. This results in a rapid growth of skin cells.
The virus can be very contagious and can be spread from skin to skin. And we often find that most people infect themselves!
People with weak or suppressed immune systems may be more vulnerable to infection.

Anyone can catch or develop a verruca. Anywhere on the body.
